It all started when the student, Reagan, came home from school crying. Her lip was bleeding and her mother, Victoria, immediately wanted to know what had happened.
According to Reagan, her teacher got mad at her for talking too much in class, so she put duct tape over Reagan’s mouth.
“Everyone laughed at me,” Reagan said through tears.
Victoria was angry. According to a report she gave to a local news station, she was told her daughter was talkative, but claimed she came from a place of learning and was very keen to interact with her teachers.
Victoria couldn’t believe the teacher could actually think it was appropriate to silence the student with duct tape.
“It bothers you for life,” Victoria said angrily, adding that her daughter had been “humiliated” by the treatment.
It even put a strain on their mother-daughter relationship.
Victoria told Fox News, “As a mother, protecting is like…it ruined our confidence.” “I felt like I knew it and let it be.”
To correct the mistake, Victoria raised her concerns with the manager and filed an accident report. She also contacted the police and the local school board. Metro Nashville Public Schools told the media they were aware of the story, and the Department of Children’s Services is also investigating.
Another fifth grader confirmed the incident to Reagan. However, they said it was a joke and they defended the teacher against accusations of exaggeration.
Victoria disagrees. She thinks her daughter owes her a public apology from the teacher.
“I would like you to make a public statement and a public apology to my daughter,” Mother Bear revealed.
She also shared the story with the media in hopes of raising awareness. It was a relatively successful venture. Several news stations have covered it, and commentators around the world are wondering whether or not the teacher should be apologized for what she did.
But for Victoria, the bad behavior is palpable and she won’t stop until she apologizes to her child.
