It was a typical winter’s day when Victoria sat on the porch of the family’s house, only playing with a Queensland heller named Blue. At about 5 pm, Victoria apparently thought the other family dog was missing. Instead of alerting her parents, Victoria wandered the rural area to try and find the dog herself, according to the Arizona Republic.
Understandably, Victoria’s parents freaked out when they realized their precious child was no longer on the balcony. They searched all over the property but could not find her. When their search turned out to be empty, they knew it was time to alert the authorities.
It was a cold night with temperatures dropping into the 30s. Knowing that Victoria was only wearing a T-shirt, authorities knew they were racing against time to find the missing girl.
The frantic search continued all night. Rescuers Matthew Ull and Eric Tarr were flying in a search helicopter when they spotted the blue dog in a ravine half a mile from home. It didn’t take long to notice that Victoria was also lying near the dog.
“I think once the dog realized we were there to help them, he was very excited,” Matthew Ull told The Arizona Republic. “He ran while the doctor was taking care of the little girl, and when it was time to leave, he jumped straight into the helicopter and was ready to go.”
Victoria was taken to the hospital and treated for a minor case of frostbite on her feet and some scrapes and scrapes.
Shawish. Jeff Neunum of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office credits blue with keeping baby warm and protected throughout the night. Without the dog’s help, Victoria might not be here today. People everywhere praise Blue for saving the girl’s life. These two are sure to always share a close bond.
