As ABC News reported, Casey Dylan Keeler, 33, of Sanford, Fla., was driving to a liquor store with her young daughter in June when she forgot to get her baby out of the car. Keeler left the little girl in an open parking lot near her apartment complex overnight with the windows rolled up.
Keeler came to his senses later that morning and sought assistance from the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. In an attempt to hide her negligence, Keeler told 911 dispatch that her car had been stolen and her daughter was inside.
Representative Bill Dunn answered Keeler’s call, arriving in the parking lot after the 3-year-old was locked in the car for 12 hours. Since the baby was in poor condition, Rep Dunn decided to take her to the hospital himself and not wait for an ambulance. The deputy’s dramatic rescue was recorded as he ran through the parking lot while holding the child to his chest.
Additional footage of the rescue was captured via Vice Dunn’s body camera. Deputy Dunn rushed to the hospital in his police cruiser, trained the little girl to breathe and told her she would be fine and should try to focus on talking to her.
Throughout the journey, the child drifted in and out of consciousness. Fortunately, the doctors were able to treat the little girl in the hospital and she made a full recovery.
However, Deputy Dunn feared for the girl’s life and was shocked by the girl’s rapid heartbeat when he took her pulse. Later photos show Deputy Dunn meeting the girl at the hospital kissing her in recognition of all he has done for her.
ABC News reported that Keeler was later charged with neglecting a child who suffered substantial bodily harm in the accident. The 33-year-old mother has two other children who are now cared for by other family members.
