A man has appeared in San Antonio Pets Alive! To give up two skinny three-month-old puppies. The staff asked the man to take them to a local shelter without killing them, but he decided to do something else with them instead.
Nearly four hours later, an employee at a nearby market opened a litter box for his shop to find the abandoned puppies in the trash. The owner had them kicked out instead of making a trip to the shelter. Abandoned dogs were reported to the clinic and their supervisor rushed them.
I opened the lid of the litter box and the puppy was very grateful.
“They immediately met our kennel supervisor and they all wagged their tails when we gave them food and love,” said The Dodo’s medical clinic manager. “They bathed because they were covered in fleas and we can tell it was a new experience for them – they liked the food so much!” Seeing the puppies up close now, it was obvious how careless their previous owner had been. Both Crockett and Bowie were severely malnourished and tested for ringworm and other parasites.
In the clinic, the common bond between the two dogs became very clear. Bowie would protect and take care of Crockett by doing things like lying on top of him to keep him warm and bringing pieces of food to his friend and placing them near his face.
It was later revealed that Crockett had canine parvovirus, which is highly contagious and sometimes fatal. Therefore, it was necessary to separate the brothers in order to be cured.
Both puppies have serious health issues and will require lengthy treatments, but the keepers are confident they will be fine. Once Crockett finishes his parvo treatment, he can go back with his brother, which will help them both a lot.
In the meantime, both dogs receive all the love and affection from the staff they can handle. Once the puppies are healthy enough to be spayed, they will be put up for adoption to begin their forever home hunt! Someone is about to be a very lucky dog owner.
