After Kevin broke his right leg 17 years ago, the condition usually treated with rest worsened and the temporary immobility worsened.
Kevin developed a neurological disorder known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD).
For the next ten years, Kevin visited the hospital at least once a month
Despite their best efforts, Kevin’s doctors ended up having his leg amputated in 2009. After the operation, Kevin was confined to a wheelchair.
However, Kevin didn’t let his bad medical luck dampen his optimism.
“The way I see it,” he said, “it can always be worse.”
It is this positive and avant-garde attitude that made him smile. Kevin’s optimism is also what caught the eye of the woman he is going to marry, Kim Didaway.
“It was love at first sight,” Kevin says fondly.
said Kim with a bright smile
Kim didn’t see the surprise Kevin had planned for their wedding day. Her fiancé secretly worked with physiotherapists to learn to walk again on their special day
Kim has never seen her fiancé walk alone. “I’m going to make this day the best day of his life,” Kevin said.
At Caprock Winery in Lubbock, Texas, Kim walks down the aisle, in her all-white wedding dress, with a bridal bouquet and a pretty smile.
When you approach the altar, the high priest asks all guests to stand
To Kim’s surprise, her fiancé stood with everyone – a sight she had never seen before
The groom was able to share his first kiss as husband and wife on his feet and planned to leave his wheelchair behind from that day forward.
“I saw him walk for the first time and there…I was stunned. I wiped away tears of joy,” Kim said after the ceremony.
Kevin’s drive and determination are simply inspiring!
