Adrienne Hudson and her 7-year-old son, Jacob, experienced a terrifying incident during a routine traffic stop. Jacob has pediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorders (PANDAS), a disorder that causes anxiety and irrational behavior.

When the police pulled Adrienne’s car over, Jacob sat in the backseat worrying. The officers approached the car and started asking Adrienne questions, to which she responded calmly. However, Jacob started to panic, shaking and wanting to flee the car.

Officer Adam Hamilton noticed Jacob’s panic and decided to ease his anxiety by inviting him to sit in his police cruiser. The officer had no knowledge of Jacob’s health condition, but he went the extra mile to make Jacob feel comfortable. Hamilton and his colleague showed Jacob their police car, allowing him to sit in it and even taking pictures of him looking happy and proud.

Jacob’s disorder causes symptoms such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Tourette syndrome-like symptoms, separation anxiety, memory loss, and hyperactivity. Hudson shared the incident on Facebook, praising the officers’ kindness and understanding.

The incident highlights the importance of empathy and understanding when interacting with individuals who may have invisible disabilities or conditions. The officers’ actions made a huge difference in Jacob’s experience and show the positive impact that small gestures of kindness can have.
