Stacy Vix was only 15 when she got pregnant. Like most teens in this situation, she was scared, unprepared, and didn’t know what to do. In the end, she made the painful decision to present her son for adoption. You couldn’t even do it.
She couldn’t believe she would find him. With so many children and records, she had no idea how to find him. She never thought she would see her biological son. And she didn’t – even 35 years later, as ABC News reports here.
While waiting at the start line of the 2018 marathon, Stephen Straw of Ohio, 35, surprised his birth mother with a mysterious message. She was extremely confused and had no idea who he was or what was going on until she opened the letter.
The letter said, “It’s been 13,075 days since you last saw me. I didn’t want to keep you waiting again.” Not everyone would have understood this encrypted message, but Faix immediately understood what those words meant, and was completely overwhelmed. She was finally able to hold her son for the first time in over 35 years.
Turns out, this wasn’t the first time Straw has attempted to locate his birth mother. “I searched for years,” Straw told ABC. “It was a dead end.”
Thinking about the whole situation and how it all turned out, Straw said, “It’s something you see in the movies. Everything was perfect.” It’s a great meeting, and we hope they continue to have more in the future and make up for lost time. It’s a beautiful message that even if you think something is impossible, and even when you lose hope, miracles can and do happen!
