When Beth and Jim adopted a newborn baby girl named Maddie eighteen years ago, they weren’t ready for the curveball life that would throw them off balance.
Everything seemed to be going well, until at the age of nine Maddie was diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar disorder. From there, things quickly took a downward spiral.
Maddie accepts that due to her condition, she can be very volatile and difficult to deal with. She understands the importance of the mental health treatment she is receiving. However, she also blames her parents for using her mental illness against her and the way they treat her, as if it was the cause of the family’s dysfunction.
Maddie claims her parents, Beth and Jim, repeatedly kicked her out of the family home and sent her to medical facilities against her wishes – because she wasn’t the ‘perfect kid’ that she was. they wanted.
In this moving interview with Dr. Phil, Maddie reveals how unloved she feels and how her parents regret the very day of their adoption.
Even his father Jim admits he has other ideas. “It doesn’t suit him,” he said. “There were times when I wondered what it would be like to have my children.”
When questioned by Dr. Phil, Beth and Jim reveal why the actions they took with Maddie were so violent. The question everyone is asking is: is she really as out of control as her adoptive parents claim?
