The light had already turned green and the cars were stopping for him. I just wanted to help him cross the road safely so he could get home safely. That’s all that crossed my mind,” Zhong recalled of what happened that day.
“I parked my truck in a safe place and went to help him. He was having trouble walking, so I decided to put him on his back.”
After making sure the old man was safe on the other side of the road and set about helping him walk, Chung returned to his truck. The old man also didn’t forget to thank Zhong for his kind gesture.
Doing this out of sheer chivalry, Chung was unaware that a man named H. Leonardi had witnessed the crash and recorded the entire ordeal.
The company owner and his colleagues paid tribute to Chung, who has been with DHL for 15 years, at an indoor event.
“I only do what’s right, so I didn’t expect it to be so widespread,” Chung said.
“We are proud to have Anson Chung, who has a big heart, on our staff. We are happy that he was there at the right time and in the right place to lend a helping hand.
Christopher Ong, Managing Director of DHL Express Singapore, said he is setting an example for all of our employees in how we can connect people and improve their lives beyond just parcel delivery.
He did the right thing.
