Someone had left a female and her nine dogs in a locked box so they couldn’t escape. The box was dumped at the Ponzi Lake landfill in British Columbia, Canada, where it was found and inspected by a Good Samaritan. This is a very good thing they did.

The mother was skinny and her dogs were about a week old. She struggled to provide for her family because of this neglect. The Good Samaritan took the family to the vet where they stayed one night before being sent to the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA). There was no foster family available at the time, so the family of dogs was moved to the Quesnel and District branch of BC SPCA, where the staff did their best to comfort and care for the dogs.

They named mother Casey, and she has done her best to take care of her young since arriving at the shelter. The healthier and healthier you get, the better able you’ll be to support them. Casey is hesitant and a bit nervous about the other animals in the shelter, but she is very kind once she gets warm with someone. You’ve just been through a lot in life.

Casey and her puppies will not be offered for adoption until the puppies are at least 7 weeks old. Until then, the BC SPCA is trying to figure out who could have abandoned this dog family in such a cruel way.
“Help is available for pet owners who are having a hard time looking after their animals,” said Laurie Chortik, executive director of communications for the BC SPCA. “They can go to the local relief or SPCA instead of being abandoned.”
