On Easter Monday, April 10, 2023, Steeve Goodwin, a Leicester native, purchased a lottery scratchcard while out shopping for bread. During the wait for his doner kebab, Goodwin decided to scratch the ticket.
Upon revealing the numbers on his Bank The Cash lottery ticket, he noticed the final number was 73, sparking hope that he had won a substantial sum. Supermarket staff advised Goodwin to contact The National Lottery to report his scratchcard. Once he secured his kebab, he headed home, sharing the emotional journey with the Mirror.
“I’m not ashamed to admit I shed a tear,” he recounted.
Back at home, Goodwin requested to use his landlady’s landline to contact the National Lottery. After the call, he was astounded to learn he was now a millionaire. Eager to share the news, he called Heidi and his mom, who initially doubted him until he sent them pictures as proof. Even Goodwin found it challenging to believe, stating, “I couldn’t really believe it. I just sat there looking at it, holding it tightly.”
That night, he securely stowed the scratch card under his pillow and resumed work the next day as a bus driver for Go Cornwall. As passengers boarded the bus, Goodwin chuckled to himself, reflecting, “There I was, a bus driver with a load of passengers on board, and nobody knows I’m a millionaire.”
Now a millionaire, Goodwin, who has typically rented apartments, intends to purchase a home outright, without a mortgage. He also managed to clear both his and Heidi’s debts and has plans for vacations together. Despite his newfound wealth, Goodwin remains committed to working and looks forward to an enjoyable retirement in the future
