Marianne asked for the fun colored extensions for a while until her mother, Latoya Howard, finally gave in. Speaking to Today Parents, Howard told them his daughter was thrilled when she agreed to let her wear the colorful hairstyle for this year’s photo day.
The little girl’s happiness quickly faded when she arrived at school and was greeted with disappointment. The administrator took Marianne aside and told her she would not have her picture taken, telling her that the student’s brochure said the hair should be a natural color.
Marianne was forced to stand in the hallway while her classmates took their school photos. According to People, Marianne was left in tears after being blocked from having her photo taken.
Speaking to WILX, his father, Doug Scott, said he and his wife were not told what happened at school.
Her parents wondered why the school wasn’t contacting them so they could either pick her up or make the recommended changes to her hair. They also think it would have been better had the school confronted them rather than telling their 8-year-old about the hair problem.
They are the ones who made the big decisions in the situation. School administrators insisted on notifying parents of the school’s dress code issue using a robocall before picture day. The principal, Ben Krish, revealed that disciples who violated this policy had a week to remedy it.
A school spokesperson issued a statement to Today Parents saying the school has made it a priority to inform families of school policy. However, Doug Scott said he never received the information.
Marianne returned to school with naturally colored hair. Her parents hope she can participate in the re-photoshoot on November 12.
