Kayla Tartalia had just returned from a trip to a nearby Wawa store when she noticed she was missing her wallet. Searching everywhere, Kayla contacts Wawa to see if anyone has handed her over, only to be told by an employee that no one has reported finding a lost wallet. Panic quickly raced through Kayla’s head.
The young woman had just won a large sum of money. Also, Kayla’s driver’s license was in the wallet along with a spare key to her house.
Kayla went to bed worried about what tomorrow would bring, only to be greeted by a surprise that morning.
When she went to check her mailbox the next day, she found her wallet safe and sound. Along with every penny that mattered, the wallet also included a short note from the man who found it.
The man tells Kayla that he is a homeless man named Jim. Jim said he found the wallet at 5:30 that morning. He added that he could be found at a local McDonald’s if Kayla wanted to talk to him.
Soon, news of Jim’s good deed spread throughout Philadelphia. When Kayla went to see Jim at McDonald’s, she brought reporters from CBS3 News with her.
Jim told Kayla and news agency reporters that it was his responsibility to return the wallet to her.
When he found the wallet, Jim didn’t even think to take Kayla’s money and just looked up her address. Jim says he is relieved to help the young woman.
Kayla rewarded Jim by giving him all the money she had in her wallet. Looking ahead, Kayla says Jim’s good deed is a reason to believe in humanity. Kayla also adds that she is now more likely to do a random act of kindness to herself.
