Each of these Brazilian brothers claimed that the child was not his, because it was his brother. With no twin brother to take responsibility for the girl and no DNA evidence to distinguish which of the identical twins was the real father, the judge ordered both men to pay child support. According to the Guardian, the two men live in the rural Brazilian town of Cachoeira Alta.

The name of the girl’s mother was not disclosed in the media, but court statements make it clear that she met the father at a party between which they were mutual friends. At the time, she said she knew the man had a twin brother, although she had never recognized the twins.

Court statements also claim that the twins, referred to as Fabricio and Fernando, took advantage of their identical looks by impersonating each other. Their goal was to date as many women as possible. “Since adolescence, the couple have used their symmetrical appearance to hide infidelity and win over women,” the court document says.

“At the time [we met], I had no idea,” the girl’s mother told the court. She added that she had a short ejaculation with one of the twins. However, thinking about this issue, I felt that something was wrong the day they met.

On that day, the man told him his name was Fernando, but he rode a yellow motorcycle that he said belonged to Fabricio. After the mother learned of her pregnancy, the brothers were taken to court in 2017. There she demanded that the two brothers take a DNA test to prove paternity. Although the test results proved that one of the twins was the girl’s father, both refused to admit that he was the father. The test was unable to determine the real father, because identical twins share 99.9% of their DNA code.

According to the court, there is a more detailed DNA test with the possibility of determining the real father. However, the test is very expensive and not necessarily conclusive.

“It’s a very sad situation,” the mother continued. They know the truth, but they took advantage of the similarity to escape responsibility.”

Although her daughter is now nine years old, the mother did not give up. She continues to press for the truth and demands the father take responsibility.

Fortunately for her, the judge saw fit to punish the two men for their bad behavior. “One of the brothers, in bad faith, seeks to conceal paternity,” Judge Felipe Peroca wrote in his ruling. “Such behavior should not be protected by the judiciary.”

To prove his point, the judge ruled that the twins paid 30% of the minimum monthly wage in Brazil, which is about $76.88. The twins also have to share school fees, medical and dental care and clothes with the girl’s mother. Although the judge’s decision is a financial victory for the mother and daughter, the real father of the child is still unknown. The mother’s lawyer told reporters that they believed the child had a right to know which twin was her biological father.
