In 1999, two men, Danny Stewart and Pete Mercurio, were walking in New York City when they came across something that would change their lives forever. They found a baby, wrapped in a sweatshirt, lying alone on the sidewalk. After initially mistaking the infant for a doll, they realized the truth and quickly called the police.

Despite their efforts, the police were unable to locate the child’s parents or any information about how the baby ended up on the sidewalk. Feeling helpless, Stewart and Mercurio watched as the police drove away with the baby in the backseat of their car.

Little did they know that this chance encounter would lead them to a life-changing decision. A year later, Stewart was invited to attend a family court hearing to talk about how he found the infant. It was during this hearing that the judge asked if he would be interested in adopting the baby.

At first, Stewart and Mercurio were unsure about adopting a child. However, they felt a deep connection to the baby, whom they named Kevin, and ultimately decided to go through with the adoption process.

When they were finally reunited with Kevin, the emotions were overwhelming. Mercurio recalled holding Kevin and feeling a pressure point in his finger that opened his heart to the idea of being one of Kevin’s dads.

The adoption process was a long one, but on December 17, 2002, it was finally finalized. Kevin officially became a part of their family
