The public hailed an unidentified man as a hero after smashing a Mercedes-Benz window for saving a small dog left inside the car on a hot day in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. The owner of a 14-week-old Terrier mix left the dog in the car to run errands, and police have received reports of the dog in distress.
The police considered the man’s actions legal and he would not be punished for breaking the car window. Community support staff attended the dog before returning it to the owner and issuing an official warning of the incident.

Wiltshire Police Inspector Steve Daly added that although most people never harm their pets, ignorance and recklessness can lead to such a life-threatening crime, the animal is in danger.

“People don’t think this will happen to them,” he said.
A dog should never be left alone in a car, no matter the weather. He continued, “People love animals, and if they see something they are not happy with, they will take action.”
It’s unfortunate that this is still happening, so stories should continue to be shared to raise awareness.
