He reflected on a similar moment when his mom had screamed with joy, even though he had been away for just two months.
“When I graduated basic training, I was only gone for two months, and she screamed the same way when she saw me then. It’s been two years, so I know it’s coming,” he recalled.
Houston went on to share the reason behind capturing the surprise for his mom on video.
“I used to watch videos of soldiers coming home, you know, and so I said I want to do that for my mom,” Houston expressed. “It’s not every day you get to surprise your parent,” he added.
Hill, eager to maximize her son’s brief visit, ensured he felt as special as possible. She took the opportunity to honor her son for his service to the country.
“I just want him to feel happy at home because in the next couple of weeks, he’ll be gone back doing what it is he does for our country, you know,” Hill said.
For Houston, returning home was a chance to escape from work and simply be with his family, even if only for a short period.
“I can come home, I can decompress, I cannot think about work for a while and you know just hang out with my family, man. Can’t beat it,” Houston expressed.
