“My daughter, Jada, bought a used car a few weeks ago. Since she wasn’t 16 until March, I’m driving around to see if there are any issues that need fixing before I give it to her. Eh Well, yesterday I was fiddling with it and opening the storage compartment, this is above the dash (which I’ve opened half a dozen times already.) This time I noticed a rubber mat on its bottom and for some reason I pull it off To my surprise I found this envelope with this message in. I’m not going to lie, I shed a few tears.
He also shared a photo of the letter he found inside the envelope, as what was written there affected him deeply. The car’s previous owner left a very special message for the new owner:
“To whoever gets this car, I just wanted to let you know what private car I bought. This car belongs to my mother. She died on February 25, 2015 in a house fire along with my 6 year old daughter and my aunt. The last time my mom drove this car was the day you left us.”
The letter went on to explain that the previous owner did not want to sell the car, but had to do so after a post-mortem malfunction in the newspapers. The car was the last link of these three beloved people of the previous owner, so they wanted the new owner to treat the car well.
The letter went on to talk about the good times the previous owner had spent with the car and his daughter, mother and aunt. It was a touching letter, written from the heart. Minor scratches and blemishes and the stories behind them are explained. The message continued:
“You ride with angels. My angels. Talk to them if you want, I’m sure they’d love to see and hear some new adventures you have in that car. By the way, her name is Sylvia.”
The first day my mum got this car we all drove around and Dr Hawk’s mum Sylvia came up on the radio that name came out when my daughter said that’s what we should call the car. So please don’t change his name.”
The letter ended with a special plea:
“If you ever want to sell Sylvia, try to find me. I just paid for 3 funerals, and I can’t afford to buy them right now, but hopefully I’ll be in a better financial position if I decide later that “They’re no longer right for you. Be blessed, be happy, live and love as we did. I wish you and Sylvia the best!”
This all happened in 2017. After Kevin posted the message and the car he bought on Facebook, thousands of people shared the post via social media. Tami from Kansas was one of those who had heard of him.
The story moved her so much that she decided to do something about it. I called Kevin and asked him if he would consider selling the car back to its rightful owner.
At the same time, she started a fundraiser for money and with the help of This Is Life LIVE, she tracked down the previous owner: a woman named Sabrina, who lives in Greenup, Kentucky.
At the end, Sabrina meets Sylvia, the car her family has had many adventures in.
