Mr. Breakfast had undergone multiple failed adoption attempts during his stay at the rescue shelter. Hearing about his troubled past, Liz made the compassionate decision to provide him with a new family.
According to The Dodo’s report, Mr. Breakfast had spent years in a foster home after being rescued from a dogfighting ring. His physical appearance, marred by cropped ears due to ear docking (a practice to protect fighting dogs), made it challenging for him to find a forever home. This procedure shortened his ears to prevent severe injuries during fights.
Despite his somewhat intimidating appearance, Liz recognized that Mr. Breakfast’s tough exterior concealed a softer side. Liz faced the additional challenge of addressing behavioral issues resulting from his aggressive training and lack of domestic upbringing.
Understanding his past, Liz embarked on the task of properly training Mr. Breakfast, even though he was deaf. Fortunately, Liz had experience working with deaf dogs and was armed with effective techniques. She communicated with Mr. Breakfast using sign language, a form of communication he was already familiar with. While he had some knowledge of signing, he initially displayed uncertainty and a degree of distrust toward his new owner.
