However, in 2015, this young woman, Chloe Page, made an impression with her performance in the 6 chair challenge during the 12th edition of the X-Factor in the United Kingdom.
Paige was already well known to viewers after her surprise audition for the show dancing on stage in a crop top and mini skirt, distracting herself from being “too excited” to have a chance to audition.
She revealed that singing is a common hobby in her family:
“I come from a beautiful family of musicians. My mom has a lot of siblings, and a lot of my mom’s sisters sing,” she said on the pre-recorded audition tape.
Her rendition of Katie B’s song “Crying for No Reason” so impressed the judges that she qualified for the next round:
“I don’t know how someone your age could pretend to be something so profound; you literally sang with your soul,” said one of the judges.
Although judge Simon Cowell was skeptical of his song choice, it was good enough to qualify for the show’s 6-place challenge round.
With a hint of sarcasm, he said she was a “brave girl” once she announced she was going to sing “Amazing Grace” at the a cappella concert.
She clearly had a voice that worked, but it took more than a great voice to impress the judges and the audience.
But when Paige started the song’s second clip, the audience started screaming. The other contestants watch each other’s performance while Paige’s contestants seem a bit nervous because her voice was too loud.
Rita Ora slumped in her seat in awe of the performance. Once she finished her performance, she enjoyed the praise from the judges.
“What you did there,” said the former skeptic Coyle, “is put on a show that I think not only deserves you a place, but also a place in the finals.”
Nick Grimshaw told her, “Honestly, I don’t remember Chloe Page, but after this performance, I’ll never forget you again.”
Rita Ora seemed surprised by Paige’s performance, she was actually the one who eliminated Paige from the show, although she was praised by the audience. Ora opted to save contestants Louisa Johnson, Monica Michael and Laurent Murray instead.
However, Paige covered Adele’s “Hello” song on her YouTube channel which has over 265,000 views.
A music video of Adele singing “When We Were Young” in her friend’s kitchen also circulated online, bringing her back into the spotlight.
