UPS driver Paul Pereira was finishing his journey for the day, heading to the last stop on his list. He was walking around Haverhill when something shocking caught his eye. He pulled up in his big brown truck and jumped out the open door.
Paul sprinted across the busy neighborhood street, across the yard of Brian and Tracy Lavender’s house and onto the balcony. He was knocking frantically on their door, trying to get the attention of anyone who might be in the house.
Paul had spotted the fire raging on their porch and jumped into action. The bright orange, yellow and red flame appeared to have started on a table and licked the balcony. Fire has taken over the front of the house! Paul yells at whoever was in the house at the time to get out quickly, which turns out to be Tracy and her daughter. They huddled outside as neighbors called 911 for help.
The flames were so hot that everything around the fire was melting. But there was no way Paul would stand there and watch the fire destroy this family’s home.
Even though the flames were huge, he did something no one expected! He swears he’s not a hero, but not everyone agrees after watching him in the video below! In 22 years of activity, Paul has never done anything like this…
What we do know is that Paul Pereira’s courageous response certainly saved this family from further heartbreak. Luckily, he wasn’t driving down the street carelessly that day, staring out the windshield unaware of what was going on around him.
