The police officers responded by presenting and reading to her the ordinance which explicitly states the following:
“It is illegal for any individual to be present in a state of nudity on any public beach… or any public property within view of the general public.”
Sam, in response, asserted to the police that she was not in a state of nudity. A friend of Sam’s captured the incident on video, and after approximately ten minutes, she was released without being taken into custody, still wearing her thong bikini.
While Sam is accustomed to making headlines for her trapeze performances and acrobatic feats, this time her choice of swimwear has grabbed attention. Sam remains perplexed as to why she was arrested, as she firmly believes that her bikini selection should not be classified as nudity under the applicable North Carolina law
