Three brothers were walking along a country lane near Colael in Ireland when the man, who is out on bail for burglary, stopped a car and tried to lure them into his car.
When they refused, he climbed down and grabbed the girl and threw her into the back of a Nissan 4×4 he had stolen earlier that day.
It was then that one of his brothers jumped out of the car window and started punching the kidnapper as he started to walk away.
Sources told the Irish Herald the boy was “roaring, kicking and making as much noise as possible”. The boy’s quick actions gave his sister time to open the car door and jump out. His brother also managed to escape.
The children ran home and told their father and a special police alert was immediately sent to the community.
The man apparently stole a church collection box later the day after his failed kidnapping attempt.
Police arrested the 34-year-old man that day. The man is convicted of sex offenses with children but is not on the sex offender list as the crime dates back to the 1990s.
The Independent reported that the children’s father said he was “very proud” of his son.
