The car, which has been in Fred Lamar’s garage since the mid-1970s, showed plenty of signs of age, so the restoration was like bringing something dead back to life. However, Cam spent many hours in the old car, and it ended up looking even more impressive than when it was brand new.
Dedman explained in a Facebook post that his grandfather is his best friend and took on the project because he felt the guy deserved something special for his birthday.
The two talked a lot about getting the car back, but Cam always said her life was very hectic. The two never got the chance to work on the car together, but Deadman aimed to secretly finish the project in time to celebrate Fred’s 81st birthday.
In early 2020, Cam pulled the newly restored antique style out of the garage for a private unveiling. Deadman went to his sister’s house to deliver the surprise and blindfolded the family to add more drama to the moment.
When he took the gang away from his grandfather, the man was in disbelief and began to shed tears. Deadman told ABC News he didn’t expect his grandfather to have those feelings. The man almost passed out, so Cam helped him to his feet. His grandfather exclaimed that he couldn’t believe the car was an old Chevy.
The car was Fred’s family car, and it was the car he used to drive Cam’s mom around when she was a baby with the rest of the family. It was definitely the best birthday present Fred had ever received. Fred told ABC News he was in disbelief and had a very special grandson.
