Chase’s scholarship return took on new meaning when the Dalkis family learned of Lorenzo’s latest troubles. An employee at a meatpacking plant had COVID-19. He was unable to wear PPE during his recovery due to respiratory problems, so he was unable to work at the factory.

He found odd jobs here and there, but his income was far below what he would have gotten from the meat merchant.

Lorenzo’s loss of income was taking its toll on the family’s finances. Knowing about Lorenzo’s economic problems made Michele want to do more, much more.

The  GoFundMe campaign  has created and updated its original Facebook post to include a call for donations. The community responded by donating over $9,000 to the Hietpas family.

The Memorial Day rally for Vince and Lorenzo turned into an event that inspired the community and the rest of the online world. The citizens of Green Bay responded in kind by donating thousands of dollars to help the family through this difficult time.

The Hietpas and Dahlke families were rewarded – the former with financial resources and the latter with restoring their faith in humanity.
