One of Det. Young’s fellow officers approached the bride and Kretemir’s mother stepped aside, allowing them to share in the special moment.
But it wasn’t just one of the detectives. Young’s fellow police officers came forward to pay their respects to their late friend – one by one, each of Young’s seven men took turns calling out to the brothers of the force as they danced with Krietemeier. Additionally, they danced to the tunes of “Father and Daughter”, the song that held a special place for Kretmer and his father.
In his interview with Today, Krietermeier revealed:
“I was thrilled to dance with my mum, but I kept thinking about my dad. I wanted to too. I’m kinda dreading this moment.”
However, thanks to the police and their kind actions, this moment ended up being one of the most memorable moments of the night. This moment was orchestrated by Krietermeier’s mother because she knew her daughter was struggling to feel herself while dancing. Crittermayer admitted she was “ugly crying.” She added:
“Seeing them tell me how proud they are of me and how proud my parents are was so heartwarming.”
Meanwhile, Officer Danny Faith spoke about the lyrics to the special, telling the media:
“The words are a snapshot of the endless, indescribable love Donnie had for Kourtney.”
After the wedding, the Denver Police Department posted a photo of Kretermiere, her husband and the seven officers on their Facebook page under the caption “Dance for Donnie.” Read the message:
“Last month he married Courtney Young. Courtney is the eldest daughter of the late Denver Police Detective Donnie Young. Donnie was killed in the line of duty on May 8, 2005.
Several Denver police officers attended at the wedding, and while Donny could Officers in attendance took turns dancing with Courtney to the traditional father/daughter dance It was a time for the books and a reminder that law enforcement is a family and that family is forever.
