She proceeded to express dissatisfaction with the absence of signage for Stoff’s service dog, implying that it was unclear that people shouldn’t approach the dogs for petting. In contrast, Nala, being in training, consistently wore a vest adorned with patches identifying her as a service dog.

Regrettably, the situation escalated to the extent that the mother went as far as involving mall security. Stoff was taken aback by the extent of the harassment she faced simply for declining the request. Upon leaving the scene, the mother even threatened to involve her lawyer.

Stoff shared with Yahoo, “People ask us all the time, so I just said, ‘no.’ All the dogs are working, so it’s my go-to answer. And they walked away. No big deal, right?” She added, “This lady went out of her way to come back with her child and yell at us for saying ‘no.’ … And we should ‘have a sign or something.'”

Following the incident’s viral video, the mother gained notoriety as “Service Dog Sally.” In an interview with Bored Panda, Stoff revealed her struggle with autism, making it challenging for her to efficiently communicate why Nala couldn’t be petted.

On the other hand, the mother, in an elaboration to local news outlet WTAE, initially acknowledged Stoff’s “rude” response about not being able to pet Nala. However, she returned for a different reason, claiming she overheard someone in the group telling them to “f off,” and, holding her daughter, decided to confront them due to the use of profanity
