On September 8, 2022, the British monarchy changed completely with the death of Elizabeth II, making her son Charles the new king.

According to TIME, the late Queen had health issues that kept everyone on high alert during her sighting at Balmoral Castle. Earlier today, a statement was released, according to PEOPLE. and he said he is:

“Following a further assessment this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended that she remains under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable at Balmoral.”

Several family members rushed to be by his side, including his son, as well as his grandson, Prince William. While William’s wife Kate Middleton was not immediately with them, she rushed to collect their children from school as soon as the tragic news of the Queen’s death emerged.

Charles’ first speech as king was heartbreaking when he issued a statement explaining his mother’s death. The statement was posted on Instagram, saying:

Statement by Her Majesty:

“The passing of my beloved mother, Her Majesty, is a moment of great sadness for me and my entire family.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of a dear lady and a much loved mother. I know his loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people across the world.

During this time of grief and change, my family and I will feel comfortable and supported knowing the deep respect and affection the Queen has received so widely.

Many people have left comments expressing their sadness and grief at the death of the late Queen. One person wrote: “We are all thinking of you ?????.” Another said: “The Queen needs some rest. I take comfort in knowing that she is now with the love of her life.”

And although there were at times problems within the Royal Family, the members showed such a great sense of unity as they all worked desperately to be there for Her Majesty when needed.

According to TIME, Harry traveled to Scotland to be with his grandmother, leaving his wife, Meghan Markle, in London. PEOPLE reported that he traveled with it, and there have been talks that she will likely travel to Balmoral at a later date.

Prince William, Harry’s brother who is second in line to the throne, flew to Scotland on a plane with Queen Elizabeth’s two other sons, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Edward’s wife, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, was also on board.

The couple were already in the UK for a trip to Europe where they will attend charity events “close to their hearts”, according to Time magazine. It was a surprise that this happened at the same time as the Queen’s health was deteriorating. While they had originally planned to visit Manchester, they hadn’t planned to visit Harry’s grandmother.

However, that all changed after the Queen’s death.

The Sun reported that Harry drove to Balmoral while wearing a dark suit and tie, looking incredibly grim as news of his grandmother’s death spread.

It’s unclear if Meghan will join her husband as a shoulder to lean on during this difficult time or what the rest of the Royal Family will do in the coming days as they show their respect for their late loved ones. What is clear, however, is that the Queen will continue to live on in the hearts of those across the UK.
