On the significant day, Elizabeth made a decision to familiarize herself with Australian Sign Language, Auslan, to sign the lyrics of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” for her deaf groom, Scott.

“Even though Scott is deaf, I have never felt more heard in my life. To celebrate the joy he has brought into my life over the last two years, I wanted to surprise him with my entrance,” she shared with Love What Matters.

At 41 years old at the time, Elizabeth spent weeks learning the lyrics for Scott, 38. A video from the wedding captured the heartfelt surprise, with Elizabeth standing at the opposite end of the aisle from Scott. Adorned in a sleeveless, belted gown, the song began to play, and Elizabeth commenced signing.

“I didn’t know any sign language before we met,” she told Daily Mail. “Before I went in, I was freaking out – not only did I want to get it right, but I knew he had friends there who were also deaf, so they would know exactly what I’m saying or not be able to say. I really wanted to get it right, so there was this extra level of stress walking in.”

According to Elizabeth, Scott was initially confused because her son left her at the end of the aisle. However, as soon as she locked eyes with Scott, she began signing to him as if they were the only ones in the room.

As the song concluded, Elizabeth moved next to Scott, who wiped away tears. The heartfelt video has touched the hearts of people around the world.

“I got lucky on the day; I didn’t make any mistake
